Adani-Hindenburg issue: Supreme Court sets up expert committee, asks Sebi for probe

The apex court made the decision while hearing a batch of petitions pertaining to the Hindenburg report. The Supreme Court Thursday set up an expert committee headed by retired Justice A M Sapre to look into the issue arising out of the Hindenburg report. The apex court made the decision while hearing a batch of petitions pertaining to the Hindenburg report. “We hereby constitute an expert committee: consisting of Mr O P Bhat, Justice Devdhar, Mr K V Kamath, and Nandan Nilekani and the committee will be headed by former Judge Abhay Manohar Sapre,” Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said. Taking note that Sebi is already probing the issue, the Supreme Court asked it to also examine if there was a violation of market regulations, short-selling norms or stock price manipulation. Sebi will complete the probe in two months and file a status report. The apex court said that the committee would make an overall assessment of the situation and suggest measures to make investors aware, PTI reported. The court has directed the Centre, financial statutory bodies, and SEBI chairperson to render all cooperation to the panel set up for the probe.
