On February 7 this year, Justice Waziri directed the suspects in the 2G allocation case to plant 16,000 trees in the city after they failed to file their replies to a plea filed by CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenging the judgment of the trial court acquitting all the accused. After he made suspects in the 2G case plant 16,000 trees for not complying with court orders last month, litigants in Justice Najmi Waziri’s court in the Delhi High Court are now offering to plant trees voluntarily. Litigants have offered to plant tree saplings in three cases being heard by Justice Waziri, who directed them to go ahead with the plantings after identifying locations in consultation with officials of the forest department. In all cases, Justice Waziri mentioned the kind of trees that should be planted, depending the quality of the soil and topography. Some of these are gular (cluster fig), pilkhan (white fig), kadamba (burflower tree), jamun (black plum), bargad (banyan), and mango, to name a few. Justice Waziri also directed that aerial pictures taken before and after the drive be submitted in court by the forest authorities along with an affidavit. One of the cases pertains to the quashing of an FIR on the basis of the settlement between the two parties. However, the petitioner submitted that as an expression having caused unnecessary burden on the administrative machinery, he was ready to do some social work. Following this, Justice Waziri asked him to meet the deputy conservator of forests (DCF) (North) who shall assign him to plant 20 trees. In another case, two litigants volunteered to plant 25 trees in each in Malviya Nagar on account of the petitioner delaying an alimony payment to his divorced wife. The third case pertained to a financial dispute between a father and son. In a plea seeking quashing of the FIR on the basis of settlement, the petitioner expressed his will to perform social work and was directed to plant 50 trees by the court.
