Ashwini Bidre murder case: Bombay High Court rejects bail application of Eknath Khadse's nephew, Dny
The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected the bail application of Dnyandev Patil alias Raju Patil who is the nephew of ex-BJP Minister Eknath Khadse and was arrested in connection with the murder of Assistant Police Inspector (API) Ashwini Bidre. Meanwhile, the court also directed the lower court to finish the trial in the case in a year's time. Patil was arrested in December 2017.
Justice Anuja Prabhudesai of the Bombay High Court rejected Patil's bail application.
The police said the day the murder took place, suspended police inspector Abhay Kurundkar — who is the prime accused in the murder case — had an affair with her and made desperate calls to Patil, who was drinking with some friends in a bar in Andheri, asking him to come over to Bhayandar urgently.
“When Patil took the cab from Andheri to Bhayandar he got several calls. A taxi driver told us later and call details records showed that the calls were from Kurundkar. The same day Gore was murdered by Kurundkar and Patil went to their home. Next day also he went to meet Kurundkar,” said Jyoti Lohokare, who represented the state in the case.
The police suspect that Patil was part of the conspiracy to dispose her body and they have statement of her husband Raju who has claimed that Patil knew Bidre before she was killed.
“Though we had less evidence against Patil we had concrete CDRs of him to prove to the court that he had gone to the house of Kurundkar the day the murder took place and spoken to him that night as well as in the morning. On hearing our case the court rejected his bail and asked the lower court to complete the trial at the earliest in a year,” said Lohokare.
“We are happy with the rejection as we have very less evidence against Patil but if his bail is rejected then there is no chance anybody else will get bail,” said a police official from Navi Mumbai Police.
Patil is the son of Eknath Khadse's sister and stays in Jalgaon. He has interests in construction as well as in hotels.
