Autistic boy not to take exams alongside others, rules Court after hearing petitions of parents
Parents of a boy suffering from autism wanted their son to be able to take standard X exam in the school where he is studying. But after the school’s refusal to allow him sit for the exam, even the Bombay High Court has now asked the parents to consider shifting him to an institution for children with special needs. The Bombay High Court has refused to grant relief to a 16-year-old boy in the case. In an order passed earlier this week, the court ordered that the child may take the exam at another suitable time. The boy currently studies in a regular private ICSE school in Bandra West. As per the petitioners, the boy has no problem in understanding and writing his lessons but he simply requires more time than an average student to do so. The petitioners cited the above and urged the court to permit their child to appear for the Class 10 exams as a student of his current school. It also directed the school authorities to provide the petitioners with a list of schools with an alternate curriculum suitable for the their son.
