The Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will inaugurate a crèche at the Bombay High Court on Saturday to encourage advocates, especially women, to continue the practice even after delivery of a child. The Bombay High Court will be the second such high court in the country to have such a facility after the Kerala High Court. The crèche will be housed in an over 900-sqft room housed in the adjoining Central Telegraph Office. Chief Justice Manjula Chellur had announced its opening at a function organised by the Advocates Association of Western India on the eve of Woman’s day. The association has been pursuing the cause for several years. President of the Association Rajiv Chavan said, “Most women advocates are forced to abandon their legal career after they become mothers mainly because they do not get help to take care of their children. We have been making repeated demands to the state and high court administration to step in and provide special financial assistance. The crèche will prove to be a positive step to protect interests of women advocates.”
