The Court made the comment while adjudicating a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition that alleged that the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act's requirements would not be followed in transporting 100 camels from Rajasthan's Bikaner to Delhi for the Republic Day parade. New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), and the Border Security Force (BSF) were warned by the Delhi High Court that any violations of Standard Operative Procedures (SOPs) in the transportation of camels from Rajasthan to Delhi for Republic Day celebrations would be taken seriously by the Court, Bar and Bench reported. Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad's division bench remarked that the respondents have been carrying the camels with the utmost care and caution and are also abiding by the law. But the Court also made it very plain that when shipping camels in the future for any reason, including their participation in the Republic Day Parade, they must strictly abide by the amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (The Transport of Animals) Rules, 2020. The Delhi HC bench in its decision noted, “the Union of India, the AWBI, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways as well as the BSF shall ensure strict compliance of the SOP read with the Rules governing the field in the matter of transport of camels. Any deviation in the matter of transport of camels shall be viewed seriously by this Court.” The Court made the comment while adjudicating a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition that alleged that the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act's requirements would not be followed in transporting 100 camels from Rajasthan's Bikaner to Delhi for the Republic Day parade. The BSF and AWBI said that they had issued SOPs and directives to make sure that the legislation is rigorously followed. The National Research Central on Camel was consulted in the creation of BSF's SOPs, it was also disclosed to the Court.
