Delhi High Court has asked Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to respond in the alleged case of doping against wrestler Narsingh Yadav that had put an indefinite stop on the wrestler's career. Narsingh Yadav was caught in a doping controversy just before Rio Olympics 2016, where he was set to represent India in men's freestyle 74kg category.
Delhi High Court seeked CBI's response after Narsingh's plea seeking time-bound completion of investigation in the case. Narsingh has not competed ever since the case came out and there has not been much advancement into the case.
Narsingh's dream of competing at the Rio Olympics came to an end with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upholding the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) appeal against the clean chit given to him in the doping violation case.
The ad hoc division of the CAS had also slapped a four-year ban on the Mumbai wrestler.
Narsingh, who bagged the Olympic quota with a bronze medal finish in last year's World Championships, won a legal battle after compatriot Sushil Kumar took to court asking for a trial.
Narsingh then ran into trouble over alleged doping offences. He first returned positive for a banned steroid following a dope test on June 25 by NADA, before being cleared on August 1. However, the WADA filed an urgent application before the CAS ad hoc division to challenge the decision of NADA India to exonerate Narsingh, which was upheld.
Narsingh then demanded a CBI probe into his doping scandal and the case has been stuck ever since.
At the time of asking for CBI probe, Narsingh had told PTI, "I will appeal to the Prime Minister to investigate this matter thoroughly. The truth must come out, even if we need CBI for that. If I'm the culprit, hang me, I'm ready for it. Do a NARCO test on me and also the people who are involved."
