Delhi high court raps CWC over children hit by cops

The court made its displeasure known when it was informed by lawyers that children produced before CWC are allegedly "slapped and abused" by police but CWC doesn't object. "We cannot have a CWC which is a mute spectator. Allegations are serious. Why is police misbehaving with children? This is not done. When lawyers are making such allegations, Delhi government has to do something about it. Take this seriously," a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Pratibha M Singh said while issuing notice to Delhi government. HC also asked Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) secretary Sanjeev Jain to interact with legal aid counsel and other stakeholders before submitting a report. It directed Jain to interact with CWC officials on the issue to know their version. However, the court denied the petitioners' request for installing CCTVs at CWC premises to "stop this abuse and misuse of power by bench of magistrates", saying the privacy of children cannot be violated.
