Delhi High Court seeks reply on regularisation of colonies

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Delhi government and the civic bodies on a petition which sought directions to stop the regularisation of the unauthorised colonies till the proper infrastructure is developed in such areas and the buildings conform to safety norms. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Harishankar sought replies from the government, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority. It directed them to file their replies within 10 days. The court's direction comes on a petition filed by advocate Arpit Bhargava who claimed that 1,700 illegal colonies in the national capital have come up with the alleged "active connivance" with officials of the local authorities and the Delhi government. The plea sought that directions be passed to curtail the illegal constructions thereby adding that these have come up in violation of the National Building Code 2005 for seismic zone IV, in which Delhi falls.
