MMRCL gets Bombay High Court nod to carry out drilling outside J N Petit

After a statement by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), which is constructing the Metro 3 line, that it has implemented all the suggestions made by an expert committee, in regards to the maintenance of the J N Petit Institute, on D N Road, the Bombay High Court, on Wednesday, vacated the stay on the drilling and tunnelling work imposed around the building. A division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice M S Sonak did not dispose of the petition, granting liberty to the institute to revive it as and when it found any wrongdoing. While lifting the stay it also asked the corporation, which is constructing the line between Colaba to Seepz, to ensure that no damage is caused to the heritage buildings on DN Road. Two trustees of the institute had moved the HC, seeking a stay on the ongoing work at the proposed Hutatma Chowk station. The petition said that on August 25, a heavy limestone finial adorning a portion of the JN Petit building's ceiling had fallen due to the constant vibrations from the ongoing tunneling work for the Metro. Following which, a committee comprising a structural engineer from IIT, one member nominated by J N Petit Institute and another by MMRCL was formed.
