Plea filed in Bombay High Court against two-day nationwide bank employees’ strike
A writ petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court against the sudden two-days strike called by employees of some nationalised banks. The petition seeks directions to the Union government to conduct fresh negotiations with the employees. The petition has been filed by advocate Mathews Nedumpara, citing an article published in The Free Press Journal. The advocate has accordingly urged the vacation bench of Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Prakash Naik to declare the strikes called on May 31 and June 1, 2018, as illegal and unconstitutional.
In his petition, Nedumpara has claimed that he has arranged for purchasing a property in Cochin from an NRI and now the sudden strikes have brought in difficulties for him. He has contended that the stirkes would infringe the fundamental right to conduct business. The petition has therefore sought declaration of the strikes as unconstitutional and illegal. The petition also seeks postponement of the strike until the Union government conducts fresh negotiations. The judges, though admitted the petition but have kept it for hearing on Friday.
