Supreme Court adds 800 seats in 8 medical colleges to admission pool
A Supreme Court vacation bench of Justices S Abdul Nazeer and Indu Malhotra on Monday gave permission to add over 800 seats in MBBS courses offered by eight government medical colleges in three states to this year's admissions after chief secretaries of the three states undertook to remove deficiencies pointed out by Medical Council of India (MCI) in these colleges in three months. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand had moved the SC challenging refusal of permission to these eight government medical colleges to admit students for the 2018-19 academic year allegedly on the ground that repeated reminders for rectifying deficiencies in infrastructure and faculty strength had fallen on deaf ears.
