Supreme Court dismisses plea against bail granted to 3 trustees of Ryan school group

Terming the coverage of the Pradyuman Thakur murder as a “media trial,” the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea challenging the interim bail granted to top executives of the Ryan International Schools. A Bench of Justices R.K. Agrawal and A.M. Sapre said the CBI was yet to “examine and analyse the role” of Ryan Pinto, Augustine Francis Pinto and Grace Pinto — the top management executives of the Ryan International School — in connection with the alleged murder of seven-year-old student Pradyuman Thakur inside the Gurugram school on September 8. The boy’s father, Barun Chandra Thakur, had moved the Supreme Court against the Punjab and Haryana High Court decision on November 21 to grant them bail till the chargesheet was filed by the CBI in court. Writing the judgment for the Bench, Justice Agrawal said, “Their involvement cannot be established until and unless, there is some substantial evidence against them.” The Supreme Court had reserved the order on the plea of the father of the seven-year-old boy who was found dead in the washroom of the school on September 8. School bus conductor Ashok Kumar was arrested by the police in connection with the crime. He was recently granted bail by a lower court. The case was transferred to the CBI and it apprehended a Class 11 student in connection with the killing.
