Supreme Court stays Bombay High Court order for now

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Bombay High Court order temporarily regarding a departmental inquiry against Thane cops in the CDR case. The cops had filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court, challenging Bombay HC order directing the state home department to conduct an inquiry against Thane cops' high-handed behaviour in arresting advocate Rizwan Siddiqui in the CDR (call data record) case. The matter came up for hearing on April 9 in the Supreme court. "While the SC has given a temporary stay against Bombay HC order, Siddiqui has been asked to present his side of the honourable court regarding his arrest. The date for Siddiqui's hearing has not been decided yet, " says police inspector Sukhada Narkar, public relations officer, Thane police. Siddiqui, a lawyer for celebrities like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kangana Ranaut and Ayesha Shroff, was arrested from his residence by Thane crime branch unit 1 on March 16. He is said to have obtained CDR of Nawazuddin's wife from Prashant Palekar of Globe detective agency who was arrested in CDR racket on January 24. But Rizwan's wife challenged his arrest in the Bombay HC which ordered his release on March 21.
