Supreme Court’s YouTube channel hacked

A senior SC official said though he is not sure about what exactly happened, the website “appears to have been compromised” The Supreme Court’s official YouTube account was hacked Friday with the channel showing videos promoting a cryptocurrency developed by US-based company Ripple Labs. A blank video with the title “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION” was live on the hacked channel.

Those who tried to access it since Friday morning said all they could see was an ad while some users were re-directed to a different YouTube channel. A senior SC official said though he is not sure about what exactly happened, the website “appears to have been compromised”. He added it was detected Friday morning and the Supreme Court’s IT team had taken it up with National Informatics Centre (NIC). In a notice on its website, the apex court said, “This is to inform all concerned that the YouTube channel of Supreme Court of India has been taken down. The services on YouTube channel of Supreme Court of India will be resumed shortly.” The Supreme Court has been live streaming hearings in cases presided over by a Constitution Bench since September 2022.
