Thane police arrest one more detective in CDR case

The Thane police have arrested one more detective from Kalwa in the Call Data Record (CDR) case. He had illegally procured CDR for two clients from Globe Detective Agency in Vashi. On April 11, Thane Crime Branch unit 1 arrested Jignesh Jayantilal Chheda of Maratha Detective Agency, Kalwa, for procuring CDRs for two clients from Makesh Pandiyan of Globe Detective Agency. Pandiyan's arrest helped bust the CDR racket in January this year. "We suspect Chheda to have acquired more such CDRs for other clients and have arrested him for further investigation," said an officer from Thane Crime Branch. There have been a total of 14 arrests so far in the CDR case, which includes a police constable from Haflong, Assam's cyber cell, whose custody is not with the Thane cops yet. Lady detective Rajani Pandit and celebrity lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui have managed to get bail from those arrested so far. In fact, Siddiqui's arrest and release through a Bombay High Court order also let the Thane cops red-faced who ordered a departmental inquiry against the cops for their high-handedness. The cops sought refuge in a special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court, which put an interim stay on the HC order. Meanwhile, actor Jackie Shroff's wife Ayesha approached the Thane Crime Branch on Thursday morning to get a statement in the case. The cops have refused to divulge any details in the matter.
